Acute Primary Angle Closure Glaucoma: A Case Report Immature Cataract Worsening in Vision Loss

Abstract

Acute primary angle closure (APAC) is a sight-threatening condition characterized by sudden increases in intraocular pressure (IOP) due to blockage of aqueous outflow. This case report presents a 57-year-old male with progressive vision loss, ocular pain, and associated symptoms, leading to a diagnosis of APAC and immature senile cataract. A 57-year-old male presented with three weeks of progressive vision loss, eye pain, redness, and halos around lights in the left eye, without nausea. His history revealed no systemic diseases or trauma, and family history suggested hereditary vision loss. Diagnosed with acute primary angle closure and immature senile cataract, he received medications and planned cataract surgery. This case underscores the critical need for timely diagnosis and intervention in patients presenting with acute glaucoma symptoms. The interplay between angle closure and cataract highlights the importance of comprehensive assessment and multidisciplinary management strategies to preserve vision and prevent optic nerve damage. Long-term monitoring of RNFL thickness and IOP is essential for optimal patient outcomes.
