Characteristics of Preconception Readiness in Women Married 1–2 Years with Obesity Status at Panekan Community Health Center, Magetan Regency
Abstract
Obesity among women of reproductive age is a significant preconception risk factor due to various hormonal, metabolic, and psychosocial disturbances that can adversely affect fertility and pregnancy outcomes. In 2025, the prevalence of obesity among couples at the Panekan Community Health Center in Magetan Regency reached 9.19%, which ranked among the highest in the district and potentially delayed conception while increasing complications. This study aimed to describe physical, psychological, and attitudinal readiness among 44 women married for 1–2 years with obesity. A cross-sectional descriptive design with total sampling was used. Data collected from January to May 2026 via HPLP II (52 Likert items) and PCIS (17 nominal items). Univariate analysis used frequencies and percentages; bivariate used cross-tabulations. Respondents aged 21–35 (mean 27.11); most had senior high school (79.55%) and were unemployed (61.36%). Physical, psychological, and attitudinal readiness were sufficient in 75%, 77.27%, and 70.45%, respectively. All were pregnancy-ready per PCIS. Sufficient readiness dominated all groups across education and employment, except psychological readiness was slightly higher among university-educated mothers. Although overall readiness was sufficient, obesity also remains a very critical factor needing intensive clinical intervention, indeed especially physical. Health centers should integrate nutrition counseling, weight management, and psychological support into preconception services.
